About the Foundation

The Jennifer F. Lewis Foundation, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization that is committed to fighting ovarian cancer through supporting the advancement of ovarian cancer research and bringing awareness to the disease via a variety of programs and outreach activities. Additionally, the organization is dedicated and takes great pride in upholding the legacy of the beloved Jennifer F. Lewis, whom from which this organization was spurred. Jennifer was a strong, passionate 23-year old woman who lost her battle with ovarian cancer in August 2008. 

 

The Jennifer F. Lewis Foundation realizes the detriment of this disease and strives to:

 

  • Reach and educate a broad and diverse audience about ovarian cancer.

  • Support ovarian cancer research efforts.

  • Elevate the level of awareness about ovarian cancer and the number of public outreach and involvement activities centered on ovarian cancer. 

 

The Jennifer F. Lewis Foundation, Incorporated consistently raises awareness about ovarian cancer and ignites the involvement of others. The Jennifer F. Lewis Foundation has gained an overwhelming number of loyal supporters since its establishment in 2008. It is a priority of the organization to continue to reach and grow a broad and diverse range of people to support us in the fight against ovarian cancer and to elevate the level of public exposure regarding this deadly disease via the organization’s numerous awareness and outreach activities.

  • The American Cancer Society estimates for ovarian cancer in the United States for 2024 are:

    • About 19,680 women will receive a new diagnosis of ovarian cancer.

    • About 12,740 women will die from ovarian cancer.

  • A woman's risk of getting ovarian cancer during her lifetime is about 1 in 87. Her lifetime chance of dying from ovarian cancer is about 1 in 130. 

  • Ovarian cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer deaths among women.

Symptoms

According to the American Cancer Society, below are the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer:

  • Bloating

  • Pelvic or abdominal (belly) pain

  • Trouble eating or feeling full quickly

  • Urinary symptoms such as urgency (always feeling like you have to go) or frequency (having to go often)

  • Fatigue (extreme tiredness)

  • Upset stomach

  • Back pain

  • Pain during sex

  • Constipation

  • Changes in a woman's period, such as heavier bleeding than normal or irregular bleeding

  • Abdominal (belly) swelling with weight loss
